Robert Bruce "Bob" Cochran (born December 11, 1951 in Claremont , New Hampshire ) is a former American ski racer . Cochran is an eight-time American champion.

biography

Cochran comes from one of the most successful ski families in the United States. His parents had built a ski resort on their properties in northern Vermont in the early 1960s . There they trained their four children Marilyn , Barbara , Bob and Lindy to become world-class skiers.

The US national team was Bob Cochran from 1968 to 1974. He celebrated his greatest successes in the Ski World Cup . Between 1970 and 1974 he was placed in the top ten 21 times. At the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo , he finished eighth in the downhill and 17th in the giant slalom, in slalom he was eliminated. Cochran had his strongest season in 1972/73 , when he was the first American ever to win the combination at the legendary Hahnenkamm race. Eight weeks later he secured the only World Cup victory of his career in Heavenly Valley . In the overall World Cup he finished ninth this season.

In 1975 Cochran joined the US Pro Tour professional ski racing series . After two years he retired from active competitive sports. He then worked as a general practitioner with his own practice in New Hampshire.

His son Jimmy Cochran was also a member of the US national ski team from 2003 and took part in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin .
