The case was a British avant - rock group in 1976 during the "punk explosion" in Manchester was established. The band was named after the novel La Chute (Eng. The Fall ) by Albert Camus .
The focus of the band from the beginning was Mark E. Smith , who died in 2018 and was also the only constant member of the band. Over 50 musicians have played in the band since it was founded. During this time, The Fall released 88 albums (including 31 regular studio albums) and 45 singles. Some influences come from rock bands like The Seeds , Captain Beefheart , Can or The Velvet Underground . But also rockabilly , intelligent dance music and reggae influenced the sound of the group.
Since their inception, The Fall have gathered a staunch fan base, including musician Henry Rollins . The English radio disc jockey John Peel , who died in 2004, was known as a great supporter and promoter of the group ("always different, always the same").
