Steve Hanley
Steve Hanley (born May 29, 1959 in Dublin , Ireland ) is a musician from Manchester , England . He became known as a longtime bass player for the English band The Fall .
Life
At the beginning of his musical career in 1976, Steve Hanley played bass in the punk band The Sirens. After their only concert, they broke up as the singer left the band. Steve Hanley moved to Staff 9, which u. a. played as support for Joy Division and The Fall . At The Fall, Steve Hanley was employed as a roadie at the time and took over bass there in April 1979. He stayed in the band until 1998 and shaped their sound significantly. Due to his persistence and his calm, balanced manner, he formed the backbone of the band until he left. He left The Fall after a band argument on stage during a performance on April 7, 1998 in New York. This makes Steve Hanley the musician who has lasted the longest in the group after singer Mark E. Smith . The Fall are known for their wear and tear on band members, over 50 musicians have played there in 30 years of band history. Steve Hanley's younger brother Paul Hanley also played there for a while, from 1980 to 1985 he was their drummer.
Steve Hanley wrote over 100 songs on The Fall in nearly 20 years. He has recorded over 30 singles, 20 albums and countless live and compilation albums. He has played around 850 live concerts. And he recorded a total of 19 John Peel sessions with The Fall .
After The Fall and a break, he decided to only practice music as a sideline and took a job in administration at a school in Didsbury / Manchester. He also played in his new band, ARK , which he founded . Here u played a. former case members with Steve's brother Paul Hanley joined ARK as a drummer. In 2002 the only and quite underrated CD Brainsold was released . Steve Hanley's sons Matthew and Paul also played on this CD. His son Paul already has his own musical career, first he played drums with The Forest, now with Sacred , previously Pooler. In September 2007 they released their debut EP Snowmen Always Die , which was still released under their old name Pooler.
In 2001 Steve Hanley joined the Lovers , a band reformed by Tom Hingley , lead singer for Inspiral Carpets and Too Much Texas . In addition to Kelly Wood on keyboards and Jason Brown on guitar, Steve Hanley's brother Paul plays the drums again. After the single Yeah (2003), the acclaimed debut album ABBA Are The Enemy was released in 2004 . The successor Highlights was released in March 2008 .

Steve Hanley starred in the play Hey! Luciani played the role of John Paul II by Mark E. Smith . The performance took place in London from December 6-20, 1987 and received mixed reviews.
