The Lovers are an English band from Manchester .

Band history
The Lovers were founded in 1989 by Jeremy Kelly, who also played in the bands Lotus Eaters, Wild Swans and Diamond Sutra. He recorded a few demos with singer Darren Jones, but the project fell through. In 1995, Jeremy Kelly reformed the Lovers with Inspiral Carpets singer Tom Hingley , who previously sang and played guitar in the band Too Much Texas . They experimented with voice samples and electronic sound files. In 1997 they released the EP Work Rest & Play . After further recordings, which have not yet been released, both concentrated on their solo careers, Jeremy Kelly and others. a. as a theater maker and Tom Hingley as a solo musician. In 2001, Hingley reformed the band as Tom Hingley & The Lovers , with Jason Brown on guitar, Kelly Wood on keyboard and Steve Hanley on bass. Hanley played in the English cult band The Fall from 1979 to 1998 . A little later, Paul Hanley , Steve Hanley's younger brother, joined the band as the drummer. He also played in The Fall, from 1980 to 1985. Both then played together in ARK . This band was formed by Steve Hanley after leaving The Fall.
In September 2003, the first recording by the Lovers with the current line-up was released, the bright yellow vinyl single Yeah . The first album Abba Are The Enemy was released in 2004 and received very good reviews. Both records were released on Tom Hingley's own label, Newmemorabilia Records , as was the follow-up album Highlights , which was released in March 2008.
