Marc Riley

Marc Riley (* 1961 in Manchester ) is a British musician and radio DJ of Irish descent.

Life

Marc Riley played in the English band The Fall from 1978 to 1982 . At first he was the band's roadie, but after a while he took over the bass, which he borrowed from his friend Steve Hanley . He later switched to guitar while Steve Hanley became bassist for The Fall.

After The Fall, he formed his own band, Marc Riley with The Creepers , later The Creepers . The band existed from 1983 to 1988. In the late 80s he wrote and drew the comics Harry The Head and Doctor Mooney for the comic series Oink! .

After working as a promoter for Factory Records and 4AD for a while , he took on his first broadcasts for the BBC in the early 1990s . He became known in collaboration with Mark Radcliffe as Mark and Lard , first with an evening program on BBC Radio 1 , later with a breakfast program. Together as The Shirehorses , the two recorded two albums with parodies and also played at the Glastonbury Festival .

After the last broadcast as Mark and Lard in 2004, Marc Riley switched to the digital channel of BBC 6 Music . First he hosted Rocket Science weekly on Saturdays and Mint on Sundays (together with Rob Hughes), later from Wednesday to Friday the evening program Brain Surgery . He can currently be heard on 6 Music from Monday to Thursday, each with a two-hour evening program.
