Mark E. Smith
Mark Edward Smith (born March 5, 1957 in Salford near Manchester , England , † January 24, 2018 in Prestwich ) was the singer of the English post-punk band The Fall . He last lived in Prestwich, England.
biography
Smith had worked in the Manchester docks before starting The Fall in 1976 . During the long history of the band there were frequent changes of lineups , Smith remained the only constant in the band's history as a singer and frontman. In addition to the numerous albums by The Fall, he published two spoken word projects: The Post-Nearly Man and Pander! Panda! Tank! In 2007, the album Tromatic Reflexxions was released in collaboration with Mouse on Mars under the band name "Von Südfed" .
From July 19, 1983 until 1989, Smith was married to guitarist Brix Smith, who was also a member of The Fall during that time . After divorcing in 1989, he married Safron Pryor, secretary of the Cog Sinister Fan Club on November 27, 1991 . They divorced in February 1995. In December 1995, Smith met Elena Poulou in Berlin, whom he later married. She joined the band in 2002 as a keyboard player.
Smith had his last appearance at the Queen Margaret Union in Glasgow in November 2017. He was in a wheelchair. After a long illness, Mark E. Smith died shortly afterwards in January 2018 at the age of 60.
