The Seeds was a music group from Los Angeles ( USA ) and is one of the better known representatives of garage and psychedelic rock . The band was founded in 1965 by singer and bassist Sky Saxon . Other members were Daryl Hooper, Jan Savage and Rick Andrige.

history

The group formed in 1965 and initially played in clubs on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles. The music on the first album The Seeds was very simple and characterized by a raw, unpolished sound. The Single -Auskoppelung Pushin 'Too Hard achieved by frequent use on local radio number 36 in the Billboard charts . The song was the band's biggest commercial hit. The subsequent album A Web Of Sound was only slightly more complex, but produced more professionally. The album was more psychedelic and therefore more contemporary. The third album Future came to number 87 in the Billboard Charts . The album made use of the hippie movement and was very timely with titles like March Of The Flower Children . It was also the band's most elaborate production. For example, printed puzzle pieces were enclosed with the original record to complete the picture of the front cover. With the collapse of the hippie movement in 1969, the band broke up.

Sky Saxon continued his career. In 1971 he released two more singles on the MGM label under the band name The Seeds . Since then he has sporadically released further singles and albums until his death, mostly under the name Sky Sunlight Saxon . No further musical activities outside the band are known from the other band members.

In 2002 the band re-formed partially and temporarily for some concerts.
