action

Europe and the world are facing a new age in 1899. Nobody suspects impending danger until a few serious incidents occur. An armored vehicle appears in London , heading straight for the Bank of England . The arriving police have to watch helplessly as the armored vehicle penetrates to the vault. There, men dressed in German soldiers' uniforms jump out of the vehicle and a man with a mask who calls himself Das Phantom .

After the raid, Britain accused the Germans of attacking their bank. A little later, the phantom raids a German zeppelin factory, leaving the Germans to believe that the British army has raided the factory. It quickly becomes clear that this is the way to stir up mutual accusations and conjure up a world war.

In all distress or not to bring the legendary, now visibly aged adventurer Allan Quatermain from his self-imposed exile in Africa and takes him through the mysterious M in the so-called League of Extraordinary Gentlemen one. Together with Captain Nemo and his submarine Nautilus , the invisible thief Rodney Skinner , the vampire Wilhelmina Harker and Dorian Gray , who is immortal as long as his cursed portrait remains hidden, Quatermain is supposed to track down the phantom and prevent the world war. Soon Dr. Henry Jekyll with his monstrous second personality Edward Hyde and the American secret agent Tom Sawyer to the group. But the seven do not have much time to avert the threatening global conflict and prevent the world war, because the phantom plans to attack Venice in a few days, where the heads of state of Europe meet for a secret conference.

Initially, all gentlemen seem to be working towards the same goal, namely preventing the destruction of Venice, but it quickly turns out that they have a traitor in their midst who works for the Phantom. Skinner, first suspected, is innocent and Dorian Gray turns out to be a traitor. Nevertheless, the remaining heroes manage to prevent the destruction of Venice and unmask the mysterious phantom. This turns out to be the perfidious James Moriarty - who also played the role of M to mislead the league. He and Gray manage to escape to the icy steppes of Mongolia , where Professor Moriarty has a factory in which he makes war machines. But before that they have seized the powers and secrets of the occasional league gentlemen, including the vampire powers of Mina Harker, the elixir of Dr. Henry Jekyll, who transforms him into Edward Hyde, a sample of Rodney Skinner's skin to steal his ability to be invisible, and photographs of Captain Nemo's submarine to use his technology himself. He wants to sell these skills and the machines in Professor Moriarty's factory to the highest bidder in Europe in order to bring about world war.

The league pursues the two and is finally able to destroy the factory and rescue the kidnapped scientists and their families. While Mina Harker is killing Gray, Sawyer is able to kill Professor Moriarty while on the run with a long-range shot, who has previously rammed a knife into Quatermain. Quatermain dies shortly afterwards from his stab wound. His body is transferred to Africa and buried by his companions in African soil. At last you see a shaman dancing around his burial mound, an unusual storm brewing in the sky and the burial mound beginning to shake.

“The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen gathers a wonderful team of heroes to prevent a plan for world domination, and then, especially when it looks like a really good adventure film is coming out of it, he throws himself into [...] incomprehensible motives "Causes without effects, effects without causes and general idiocy."
