Naseeruddin Shah
Naseeruddin Shah ( Urdu : نسیروالدین شاه Hindi , नसीरुद्दीन शाह, Nasīruddīn Śāh, born July 20, 1950 in Barabanki , Uttar Pradesh ) is an Indian actor. Along with Shabana Azmi , Om Puri and Smita Patil, he is one of the leading actors in New Indian Cinema .
Life
After studying acting at the National School of Drama in Delhi (graduating in 1973) and the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune , he was discovered by Shyam Benegal . He made his debut in his film Nishant (1975) and also appeared in Benegals Bhumika (1976), Manthan (1976), Junoon (1979) and Mandi (1983) in the following years . In 1980 he played the title role in Saeed Akhtar Mirza's Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Aata Hai . Naseeruddin Shah attracts attention with his reserved acting, which makes his roles seem believable, but he can also be used profitably as a comedian. His performance as an opponent of Smita Patil in Mirch Masala (1985) or as a corrupt lawyer in Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho! .
Shah managed to be successful with audiences of artistically ambitious films by Sai Paranjpye , Mrinal Sen or Girish Kasaravalli as well as in the Bollywood entertainment industry . An example of this is his role as a stressed father in Mira Nair's Monsoon Wedding (2001). In 2003 he played in the Hollywood film version of the comic The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen to Captain Nemo . The last time he was on German television was I am always there for you! ( Main Hoon Na ) (2004).
Naseeruddin Shah starred in over 120 films. In addition to his film work, he also appears on stages, often in Shashi Kapoor's Prithvi Theater . He received the Filmfare Award for Best Actor in 1980, 1981 and 1983. In 2003 he was awarded the Padma Bhushan .
Shah's three children all became actors. He was widowed and is married to the actress Ratna Pathak , with whom he has two sons Imaad and Vivaan . The daughter Heeba Shah comes from his first marriage to the Iranian Parveen Murad .
In 2018 he was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
