Sarfarosh ( Hindi : सरफ़रोश sarafaroś ; dt. Martyr ) is a critical and commercially successful Hindi film by John Mathew Matthan . The film was released on April 30, 1999. During that time there was intense tension between Pakistan and India due to the Kargil War .

action

The film begins with a look at the endless expanse of the Thar desert in the Indian state of Rajasthan . The sequence shows the infiltration of weapons and ammunition from Pakistan across the borders into Rajasthan, India. The arsenal goes through several weapons smugglers. Part of the broadcast lands in a tribal village in a forest on the Indian peninsula near the city of Chandrapur . The local arms smuggler Bula Thakur delivers the weapons to the chief Veeran. He wants to advance terrorism . Veeran's gang raids a bus, the occupants are robbed and then killed. The incident causes a national turmoil. The stunned political leadership hires the Mumbai Police to solve and investigate the case. The team goes to Chandrapur and accidentally finds a hint of a possible connection between the massacre and Bula Thakur. He had fled beforehand because he had heard about the police operation.

The scene shifts to Colaba , Mumbai . Ajay Singh Rathore lives there. There he goes to a concert by the famous Pakistani singer Gulfam Hassan. He sees his old friend Seema there again. They were both at Delhi University . During the concert, the film viewer sees flashbacks of their times together. You see Ajay's older brother being killed. Terrorists murdered him in revenge for his father trying to testify against them. The grieving family moves to Mumbai, where Ajay's uncle runs a branch. There Ajay becomes a determined officer of the IPS (Indian Police Services). As an ACP (Assistant Commissioner), he built a reputation as an honest but tough police officer. After meeting at the concert, Ajay and Seema revive their friendship.

Meanwhile, the operations team, led by the ACP Rathore, is working feverishly to find links between enemy organizations. These organizations aim to destabilize India through acts of terrorism, arms smuggling by local gangs and acts such as the Chandrapur slaughter. Rathore puts together a team of professionals. His attempts to find Commissioner Salim failed. Salim is an honest and upright police officer who is associated with the best of intelligence. However, Salim's attempt to convict the gangster Sultan ends with his escape and the death of 3 policemen. His superiors stamp this commitment as recklessness on the part of Salim and promote Salim back to the desk. Salim believes he is being disadvantaged because he is a Muslim and does not want to work with Ajay. Salim, however, has an advantage over Ajay on Bala Thakur, now they are working together. You meet the criminals at a meeting. The result of the meeting is the death of Bala Thakur. Ajay is seriously injured. Although the Sultan and his right-hand man Shiva manage to flee, the mission is a success as they can secure a large part of the weapons and ammunition.

The investigation appeared to have come to a standstill when investigators broke up a lead on "Mirchi Seth" Rambandhu Gupt in Bahid, Rajasthan . There they try to find out everything about him. The investigations reveal that Gulfram is behind the orders of the Pakistani intelligence service ISI . The armies are supposed to invade India. Gulfram tries to halt the investigation through political means. He plans an attack on Ajay, to no avail. The ISI leadership displeases Gulfram's repeated violations. Major Aslam Beg gives Gulfram the message: lead or go under.

Investigators are preparing for an attack. You can find Mirhi Seth at Gulfram. Ajay feels betrayed by Gulfram, but he doesn't have enough evidence to prosecute Gulfram. He can finally use tricks to bring about the arrest of Gulfram. Gulfram, unable to endure the humiliation, commits suicide. The team returns to Mumbai triumphant. You get a lot of praise for breaking the terrorist network in India. At the Mumbai airport , they (especially Salim) decide to conduct another investigation to find Veeran.
