Kavita Krishnamurti Subramaniam (* 25. January 1958 in Delhi , India as Sharda Krishnamurthy ) and Kavita Subramaniam , is an Indian Bollywood - Playback - singer .

Life

She came to singing mainly through her mother. At a young age her mother, who loved Indian dance and music, sent her to Indian singing lessons . From then on she loved singing romantic ballads or famous songs. Her Bengali aunt and her Bengali uncle, who were like her second parents to Kavita, persuaded her and caused Kavita to take lessons in the Bengali style too.

In 1971 she sang a duet with Lata Mangeshkar . In 1980 she sang Kaahe Ko Byaahi , her first song used in a Bollywood film ( Maang Bharo Sajana ). In 1985 she landed her first hit with Tumse Milkar Na Jaane Kyon . From the 1990s, Kavita established herself as one of the most sought-after and popular singers.

Kavita has been married to the violin virtuoso L. Subramaniam since 1999 .
