action

Early 19th century. The daring highwayman Jalan and his armed gang ambush caravans along well-traveled trade routes in the high plains of the Himalayas . During one of these successful raids, the outlaws encounter the mysterious Ushna, who willingly joins them. The gang leader falls madly in love with the young woman, who in turn feels connected to him in a mystical way. In order to appease the suspicious followers of Jalan, the self-confident beauty leads the men to a secret pass road, which opens up further opportunities for profitable forays. The love affair between Ushna and Jalan repeatedly led to falling out between the superstitious men. The couple, whose love, according to a prophecy , does not seem to be under a lucky star, act more and more selfishly and thus become alienated from the group that ultimately breaks up.

The lovers live in their own magical sphere, the real world becomes irrelevant. For this purpose Ushna tries with forbidden practices, with dark magic as well as with Buddhist rituals to influence this gloomy prediction in order to turn fate for the better. On the way to the "Valley of Flowers", where Ushna wants to stay until she dies, the two are caught by the wise Yeti, a kind of guardian, and his bounty hunters. Yeti's task is to restore the imbalance in nature brought about by the activities of the couple. Nevertheless, in the presence of Yetis, Jalan overcomes mortality with a magical potion, while the immortality elixir fails with Ushna and she is struck down by a ball of Jalan. The highwayman is now condemned to eternal loneliness. Jalan then erreds over centuries and national borders to today's Tokyo .

In Japan, Jalan is now a controversial doctor for the Valley of Flowers Corporation , an institution that provides active euthanasia to the seriously ill. Here he meets his former lover, a reincarnated Japanese nightclub singer whose soul has wandered several times. The woman recognizes her former lover, although she can no longer remember details of her previous earthly existence. Although plagued by thoughts of suicide, the singer regains courage. At the end of the film, the couple meets Yeti, who teaches them again about the law of impermanence in earthly life. A little later, Jalan is hit by a truck full of cut flowers and fatally injured. The grieving Ushna is left alone. The equilibrium is restored.

Reviews

The lexicon of international film wrote that the film was seeking to "some overwhelming images [...], the belief in reincarnation with a discourse on euthanasia to connect." However, the film produces "unintentional comedy" and "fail at the last third too absurd story. "
