Richard Roxburgh (born January 23, 1962 in Albury , New South Wales , Australia) is an Australian actor .

biography

Roxburgh is the youngest of six children. His father († 2011) was an accountant. From 1997 to 2000 he dated the Australian actress Miranda Otto . Since 2004 Roxburgh has been married to the Italian actress Silvia Colloca , whom he met on the set of Van Helsing ; they have two sons and a daughter.

Until 1986 he attended the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA). He played Sherlock Holmes in The Hound of the Baskervilles (2002) and the next year his archenemy Professor Moriarty in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen . In Van Helsing he was seen as Dracula . After a theatrical production as a director with Tim Winton's That Eye, The Sky in 1994, Roxburgh released his first motion picture as a director in 2007: Romulus, My Father . Roxburgh also appeared in the music video Come What May with Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman .

Since 2010 he has played a brilliant criminal lawyer with self-destructive tendencies in the internationally known Australian series Rake .
