Andreas Brandhorst
Andreas Brandhorst (born May 26, 1956 in Sielhorst , Rahden ) is a German writer who also worked as a translator and, among other things, translated most of Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels into German.
Life
In 1984 he emigrated to Italy, where he lived, married to an Italian, near Venice. After the divorce he returned to Germany in 2013 and now lives in Klausheide near Nordhorn .
His work as an author can be divided into two phases. During the first phase from 1975 (sale of the first novel, published as Die Unterirdischen in Zauberkreis-Verlag) to 1988, Andreas Brandhorst mainly wrote notebook novels. During this time he was part of the team of authors for the Terranaut series. The novel In the Cities, in the Temples , the Akasha Trilogy (also with Horst Pukallus) and the Feuerstraße Trilogy were also written together with Horst Pukallus .
This was followed by a break of about 15 years as an author, during which Andreas Brandhorst mainly translated. His second phase of writing began in 2003 when he worked on Diamant , the first Kantaki novel, published in 2004. His six novels about the extraterrestrial Kantaki (known as the Diamond Trilogy and Graken Trilogy ) gave him his breakthrough and since then broad-based visions of the future, often paired with a thriller plot , have become his trademark.
The Plankton Fisherman was awarded the Kurd-Laßwitz-Prize in 1983 as the best short story . His novels Das Schiff 2016 and Omni 2017 also received the Kurd-Laßwitz Prize . In 2013 and 2016, he received the German Science Fiction Prize for his novels Das Arteffekt and Das Schiff . There are also numerous nominations for various prizes for fantastic literature.
