Empire ( Engl. For empire) is a monthly in the UK , Australia , Russia and the Turkey published film journal of the Bauer Media Group . The first edition appeared in July 1989. Empire is the best-selling and therefore most successful British film magazine. In 2010 it was named “Magazine of the Year”.

A German edition of "Empire" appeared for the first time on September 23, 2010. After a test phase with three editions, the magazine was discontinued.

content

Similar to numerous other British film magazines, the content-related focus of the articles and information is on Hollywood , but independent and "art films" are also reviewed in order to catch up with competing distributors such as Sight & Sound . In addition to the usual reporting on new film projects, cinema previews and reviews, Empire is the only magazine of its kind to publish the original copy of a well-known classic film scene on its last page (first from: Die Faust im Nacken ). Thanks to its direct line to Hollywood, the magazine often includes exclusive interviews with actors, producers and directors, reports on set visits and photos.

The magazine consists of the three sections "The Slate", "In Cinemas" and "ReView". New movies are discussed in the “In Cinemas” section; in the “ReView” section, however, newly published DVDs and Blu-ray discs are presented and rated. The section “DVD Dungeon” (English for “DVD dungeon”) also contains reviews from editor Kim Newman , who informs about obscure media novelties - mostly B horror films .

"Pint of Milk" (English for "Glass of Milk") gives the answers of celebrities to unusual questions, including the classic "How much does a glass of milk cost?" This concept is intended to clarify the reality of the celebrities, as they are unlike in conventional interviews, usually expressing unexpected and surprising things.

Empire Awards

The Empire Awards have been presented annually since 1996 , the winners of which are determined by the magazine's readers. Sony Ericsson is the main sponsor of the awards, which has resulted in the award being renamed the Sony Ericsson Empire Award .
