Robert Stromberg

Robert Stromberg is an American visual effects supervisor , production designer and film director .

Life

Stromberg joined the film in 1989 and was initially responsible for the matte paintings in films such as Tremors - In the Land of Rocket Worms , A Question of Honor and The Naked Cannon 33⅓ . He also designed the visual effects for one episode each of Starship Enterprise: The Next Century and Star Trek: Starship Voyager , for which he was awarded an Emmy in 1992 and 1995 . In 2001 he designed the visual effects in James Mangold's Kate & Leopold . A long-term collaboration developed that continued with Identity , Walk the Line and Death Train to Yuma .

In 2004 he worked with Daniel Sudick , Stefen Fangmeier and Nathan McGuinness on the visual effects for Peter Weir's Master & Commander - Until the End of the World with Russell Crowe in the lead role. For this they were nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Visual Effects . He also received another Emmy in 2008 for the miniseries John Adams - Freedom for America .

Stromberg was hired as a production designer for James Cameron's Avatar - Aufbruch nach Pandora , published in 2009 . Working on the film earned him, Rick Carter and Kim Sinclair an Oscar for Best Production Design in 2010 . He received another award a year later for his work on Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland .

In 2014 he made his debut as a director with the fantasy film Maleficent - The Dark Fairy .
