Richard "Rick" Carter (* 1952 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American production designer and art director .

Life

Rick Carter first joined the film in 1976 and initially worked as part of the Art Department on This Land is My Country , The China Syndrome and Out of Control . In the 1980s he was responsible for the visual design of films such as Buckaroo Banzai - The 8th Dimension and was often hired as a set designer. He initially designed the production design for Steven Spielberg's television series Amazing Stories and was then hired for a large number of film productions in which Robert Zemeckis or Spielberg directed or Spielberg at least appeared as a producer. These films include Back to the Future II , Back to the Future III , Jurassic Park , Cast Away - Verschollen and Munich .

After Munich he was hired for James Cameron's Avatar . For work on the film, Carter was awarded the Oscar for Best Production Design in 2010, along with Robert Stromberg and Kim Sinclair . He received another Oscar in the same category in 2013 for Lincoln .
