Eric Reynolds

Eric C. Reynolds (* in Montana , USA ) is an American VFX supervisor who was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Visual Effects in 2014 for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug .

Life

He grew up in Montana and went to Choteau High School , which he graduated in 1985. He then studied mathematics and computer science at Concordia College in Moorhead . After graduating in 1989, he accepted a job at Norwest Bank in Minneapolis . The Lion King inspired him to learn computer graphics in night school. His first job led him to Mainframe Entertainment in Vancouver , where he worked as an animator for television cartoons. The next station he worked for seven years for Tippett Studios , for which he worked on films such as Hollow Man - Invisible Peril , Evolution and Hellboy .

In 2005 he moved to Weta Digital and moved to New Zealand with his wife . There he worked on films such as King Kong , Avatar - Departure for Pandora and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey . In 2014 he was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Visual Effects , along with Joe Letteri , Eric Saindon and David Clayton for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug .

Since his wife and two children moved back to the USA in Bozeman in 2013 , he is currently commuting between New Zealand and the USA.
