Jan Roelfs

Jan Roelfs (born March 18, 1957 in Amsterdam , Netherlands ) is a Dutch production designer .

Life

Roelfs studied interior design at the Academie van Bouwkunst Amsterdam and then worked as an interior designer in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. In 1983 he began working on his first films with Ben van Os , and two years later they began working closely with Peter Greenaway .

In 1990 Roelfs and Ben van Os received the European Film Award in the Best Production Design category for The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Their Lover . The following year, the two of them were awarded the specialist prize ( Vakprijz ) of the Golden Calf for the best performance as art director.

Since 1993, Roelfs has been mainly active in the USA. He was nominated for an Oscar (Art Decoration, Set Decoration) for Orlando in 1993 together with Ben van Os , and in 1997 for Gattaca .
