Saturn Award 1973
The 1st Saturn Award ceremony took place on May 18, 1973. The initial idea came from the American film historian Donald A. Reed , who, by founding the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, wanted to give the fantastic film genres, which were rather critically viewed in thematic areas, a higher priority. The first prize donated was a golden roll of parchment ("Golden Scroll"); this was replaced in 1977 by the Saturn statue, which is still in use today and wrapped in a film strip.
