Stephen Weaver Collins (born October 1, 1947 in Des Moines , Iowa ) is an American actor , director and writer . He was best known as Pastor Eric Camden in the television series A Heavenly Family .

Life

Stephen Collins was born in Des Moines , Iowa , to Cyrus and Madeline Collins, and spent the first six months of his life in Peru . After that, his parents settled in Hastings-on-Hudson , New York , where he grew up. Collins studied at the renowned Amherst Liberal Arts College . There he joined the theater group and gained his first experience as an actor. He made his debut in a performance of TS Eliot's play Murder in the Cathedral . In 1969, Collins played Valentine in What You Want at the New York Shakespeare Festival . Shortly afterwards he signed a contract as an actor in New York.

After Collins gained experience as a stage actor, he stood next to Burt Reynolds in the series Dan August for the first time in front of the camera. He made his feature film debut in 1976 in a small role in The Untouchables alongside Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford . This was followed by guest appearances in series (including The Waltons ) and feature film roles (including in Star Trek - The Motion Picture as Captain / Commander Willard "Will" Decker ). 1981/82 Collins played in Die Himmelhunde von Boragora as Jake Cutter for the first time a permanent series role. This was followed by leading roles in the series Tattingers (1987–1988), Working it Out (1990–1991) and Ein Strauss Töchter ( Sisters , 1995–1996). From 1996 to 2007, Collins played the role of Reverend Eric Camden in the television series A Heavenly Family . Collins himself directed three episodes of the series. He made his directorial debut in 1992 with the musical The Old Boy . Collins also wrote two novels. His first novel, Eye Contact (1994) achieved bestseller status, a success that the follow-up novel, Double Exposure (1998), could not match.

From 2010 to 2011, Collins played the role of Dr. in the US television series My Superhero Family. Dayton King .

A member of the Episcopal Church of the United States of America , Collins had been married to Faye Grant since 1985 , whom he separated in 2012. The divorce took place in 2015. The marriage resulted in a daughter. Collins has been married to a native German since July 2019.

In early October 2014, tape recordings were released on the Internet in which a man who appears to be Collins admits sexual harassment of three underage girls during a marriage counseling session . The tape recordings were made by Collins' wife Faye Grant during a therapy conversation. Grant had previously sworn an abuse case, which is said to have taken place in 1972, in court , but denied having published the recordings. In response to the release, Collins was removed from the cast list for the film Ted 2 . In addition, an American television station decided not to repeat the series A Heavenly Family . Collins admitted in a written statement to People magazine in December 2014 that "from 1973 to 1994 there were three underage girls with whom he had had sexual contact".
