Hastings-on-Hudson is a village in Westchester County in the state of New York in the United States .

Hastings-on-Hudson is a suburb of New York City and a district of Greenburgh . It lies north of Yonkers and is bounded by the Hudson River to the west and the Saw Mill River to the east. The US Route 9 runs as a "Broadway" through the town.

Hastings-on-Hudson has 7849 inhabitants (as of 2010).

history

The Hastings-on-Hudson area was originally a settlement area of ​​the Wechquaesgeek . The Dutch immigrant Frederick Philipse traded weapons, blankets and other products with the residents and bought a house in the area in 1681. In 1693, the English crown Philipse guaranteed the manor under the name "Philipsburg Manor", which had grown to more than 370 km², from which Hastings-on-Hudson and Dobbs Ferry later emerged. In 1879 Hastings-on-Hudson was incorporated into Greenburgh.

Culture and sights

Hastings-on-Hudson has three schools, a public library and several sports and recreational facilities. Painter Jasper Francis Cropsey's home and studio Ever Rest is on New York's National Register of Historic Places .
