action

The widow Daphne Wilder is the mother of three daughters. Maggie, the eldest, marries, her sister Mae does the same. Only Milly, the youngest of the sisters, worries her mother because Daphne fears that Milly will never find the right man and that she will remain unmarried. Daphne therefore places an ad for her daughter in a dating site on the Internet for her daughter without her knowledge and meets with the candidates in a restaurant to check their suitability as a future son- in-law . She selects the architect Jason as the most suitable partner for her daughter. These meetings between Daphne and the young men are observed by the musician Johnny, who then approaches Daphne and proposes himself as a candidate for her daughter. Daphne refuses because she doesn't think he's suitable. Unnoticed, Johnny pockets one of Daphne's daughter Milly's business cards lying on the table .

Since Milly runs a catering company, Daphne and the chosen Jason agree that he hires her to cater for an anniversary party of his company and that the two can get to know each other so "by chance" without Milly knowing of her mother's attempt at coupling . Jason approaches Milly at his party as agreed, and they arrange to meet later.

The musician Johnny has now also contacted her via Milly's company address. Both get closer quickly. However, Milly cannot decide and continues to meet with both men.

During the birthday party organized for Daphne, Jason announces that he would like to introduce Milly to his parents. Daphne meets Johnny's single father Joe a little later, there is a spark between the two and they now meet more often.

In the evening on the street, Johnny sees Jason saying goodbye to Milly with a kiss and then ends the relationship with her.

Milly happens to witness a phone call from Jason's mother, in which she reports that Jason met Milly over the Internet. To clear up the situation, Jason tells her that he met her mother because of a personal ad. Milly comes to the conclusion that Jason is not the right man for her and breaks off her relationship with him in turn. She also wants to confront her mother, but catches her red-handed with Johnny's father Joe.

Milly doesn’t meet either of the men anymore and is so angry with her mother because of the pairing attempts that she doesn’t speak to her for days.

Daphne realizes her mistake and also believes that she is wrong in her judgment about the musician Johnny. She persuades the offended Johnny to give Milly another chance. He then actually goes to her and confesses his love to her, whereupon they both kiss.

After all, not only Milly has found happiness, but also her mother Daphne, who marries Johnny's father Joe.

Reviews

James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that the film was a "Made-to-Order Type B Romantic Comedy." The use of a formula is not bad if the script shows minimal intelligence, the characters are appealing and the chemistry between the main actors is right - criteria that this film “luckily” meets.

Lisa Schwarzbaum wrote in Entertainment Weekly on January 31, 2007 that the "sloppy" comedy had no charm. The scriptwriters are obsessed with the subject of orgasm .

Cinema said: "After" What the Heart Desires "and" The Stone Family "[Diane Keaton] has now finally mutated from Woody Allen's urban neurotic muse to the hectic, hysterical cinema mother of the US nation. As the San Francisco Chronicle wrote, a little disrespectful but accurate: “At a certain age, Bette Davis and Joan Crawford began to play xanthippen and ax murderers. Diane Keaton opted for mother roles. The result is the same: very, very frightening. "Conclusion: Out of control: Diane Keaton spent herself in a turbulent war of the sexes."

The lexicon of the international film judged that from woman to woman is a "romantic comedy without particularly comical potential, which lined up many clichés and does not understand how to lend esprit to the verbose dialogues of its protagonists."
