Paul Seydor

Paul Seydor (* 1947 ) is an American film editor and professor at Chapman University.

Life

Seydor has a Bachelor of Journalism and Literature and a Masters in Journalism and American Studies from Pennsylvania State University . After completing his studies in 1971, he received his doctorate from the University of Iowa in 1976 . He then pursued his academic career and was a professor of literature at the University of Southern California . During this time he wrote Peckinpah: The Western Films, a book about the director Sam Peckinpah , which was published in 1980. The book The Western Films - A Reconsideration followed almost two decades later .

In the early 1980s Seydor turned to the film industry and was involved as an assistant editor in Roger Spottiswoode's films Under Fire (1983) and Rocket Man (1986). His first film as an independent editor was Lance - Never Die Young , which was made in 1985/1986. More than 20 other film productions followed. Since 1996 he has worked regularly with the director Ron Shelton .

In 1996 he directed the short film The Wild Bunch: An Album in Montage , which also deals with Sam Peckinpah. For this, Seydor was nominated in 1997 for the Oscar in the category Best Documentary Short Film. He also received a nomination from the American Cinema Editors for the Eddie Award. The film has so far been his only directorial work.

He received the Eddie Award in 2002 for his work on The Day Reagan Was Shot .

Seydor is a professor at the Lawrence and Kristina Dodge College of Film and Media Arts at Chapman University.
