action

The African-American Whitfield family spends Christmas together . Ma'Dere, who hosts the family, has not seen some of her children and grandchildren for years. She herself got divorced and lives with her life partner Joseph Black.

Ma'Dere's son Quentin Whitfield, a musician, is in debt and is hiding from the executors. Claude Whitfield, a Marine, returns from an assignment.

Reviews

Lael Loewenstein wrote in Variety magazine on October 26, 2007 that the film was a rare package that had been thoughtfully put together and would certainly please the recipients. He treats universal topics, has a " marketable " soundtrack and well-known actors in the cast. The portrayal of the " extraordinarily talented " Chris Brown is a surprising " revelation ". The camera work and the production design were praised.

The editors of www.kino.de described the film as a " drama that appeals to an audience in a festive mood with relaxed stars like Mekhi Phifer and Delroy Lindo ". Preston A. Whitmore II designed "in spite of all the sometimes soap opera-like complications, a stylish family portrait anchored in reality ".
