Sharon Leal (born October 17, 1972 in Tucson , Arizona ) is an American actress .

Life

Leal grew up in the central California city of Fresno . She started singing at an early age and discovered her passion for acting during her time at Roosevelt High School For The Performing Arts. Her career began in regional theater productions of musicals such as Ain't Misbehavin , Into the Woods and Little Shop of Horrors .

After moving to New York, Leal had her breakthrough with a role on the Springfield Story television series . Although her television career took shape, she remained true to her love of the theater, starring in the musicals Miss Saigon and Rent on Broadway .

Sharon Leal made her film debut in the 2006 US drama film Dreamgirls produced by Bill Condon . She played alongside Beyoncé Knowles, Anika Noni Rose and Jennifer Hudson the role of Michelle Morris, who was called up for the outcast Effie Melody White in the group of Dreams . The film is an adaptation of the 1981 Broadway musical of the same name by Henry Krieger and Tom Eyen.
