Michael Lehmann (born March 30, 1957 in San Francisco , California ) is an American director .

Life

Michael Lehmann attended Columbia University . His first job in the film industry was at Francis Ford Coppola's American Zoetrope film production company, where he answered the phone. He later oversaw the cameras on film sets such as The Outsider (1983) . He attended the film academy at the University of Southern California and graduated in 1985. While still a USC student, he made his first film Beaver Gets a Boner , with which he wanted to attract attention from the film companies.

Michael Lehmann became known through the black comedy Heathers with Winona Ryder and Christian Slater . For this film he and the producer Denise Di Novi were awarded the prize for the best debut film at the Independent Spirit Awards 1990 .

Lehmann also directed 40 Days and 40 Nights , Lies Have Long Legs , Hudson Hawk - The Master Thief and Airheads . In addition, he also repeatedly works for television, such as for only a short time spilled HBO - comedy series The Comeback , NBC's The West Wing - In the center of power and in the HBO Mystery series True Blood .
