In-law

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Latin phrase in spe literally means “in hope” and has established itself as an empty phrase in everyday language . In the sense of "probably / soon something / imminent / future" it finds many uses in everyday life, for example:

  • Deputy -in-law (possibly speedy MP);
  • Contributions in spe (texts still to be written);
  • Wife- to-be (fiancee) or father- to-be (father of a still unborn child), analogous to other family relationships;
  • Pro-to-be (possibly soon to be a professional), cf. the line “TKKG, the future professionals” from the TKKG title song;
  • Spefuchs (possibly future member of a student association ).
