The Eastern Michigan University is a state university in Ypsilanti in the US state of Michigan . There are currently 22,827 students enrolled.

history

Eastern Michigan University was founded in 1849 as a State Normal School . At that time it was the first normal school west of the Allegheny Mountains . In 1899 it was renamed Michigan State Normal College and in 1956 Eastern Michigan College . It was given its current name in 1959. In Germany, Eastern Michigan University has a partnership with Justus Liebig University in Giessen . a. runs an exchange program. Sascha Feuchert, a German scholar from Giessen, is also an honorary professor at EMU.
