Ashley Devia Rodrigues (born September 12, 1988 in Pickering , Ontario ) is a Canadian soccer player and current team captain for the Guyanese national soccer team .

Life

Rodrigues was born in Pickering, Ontario to a Canadian and a Guyanese mother . At the age of 10, she left Canada with her parents and moved with them to the United States. In the fall of 2002, her family returned to Canada, where they attended St. Mary's Secondary School in their hometown of Pickering from August 2002 to spring 2006 . In the fall of 2006, she enrolled at Eastern Michigan University , and in the spring of 2009, she did her Master of Health Administration (MHA). In August 2011, she began a second degree at Grand Valley State University and went to the University of South Florida to continue her health studies .

Football career

Rodrigues started her career at the age of four in the youth of the Pickering Soccer Club before moving to Florida in 1998. In Florida she played for the Tampa Bay Elite Soccer Club and was on the local Florida State Girl selection team in 2000. In 2002 she returned to Canada with her family and played for the St. Mary's Monarchs, the women's soccer team at St. Mary's Secondary School , from fall 2002 to 2005 . After graduating from secondary school, she went to Eastern Michigan University in autumn 2008 and played for the EMU Fighting Irishs in the women's soccer team until 2009. After completing her bachelor's degree in 2009, she went to VSI Tampa Bay FC .

National team

The former Canadian U-15 international was first appointed to Guyana in 2008 and has been the captain of the national team since 2009 . Since then she has played in 11 official FIFA internationals and 7 friendly matches for Guyana.

As a trainer

In June 2010 she was hired by Michigan Alliance FC as a coach and held this job until August 2011. In August 2011, she became an assistant coach during her studies at Grand Valley State University for their GVSU Lakers Women Soccer Team. She returned to Florida in May 2012 and has since coached the U-13 girls' teams at St. Petersburg- based Greater Tampa Bay FC.
