Piper Lisa Perabo (born October 31, 1976 in Dallas , Texas ) is an American actress .

Life

Perabo's mother, a physiotherapist, is from Norway , her father (a college professor of English and literature) has German roots. Named after the actress Piper Laurie , she grew up as the eldest of three siblings in Toms River ( Ocean County ), New Jersey . She has two brothers (Adam and Noah). After high school Accounts 1994 at the Toms River High School North in New Jersey, she enrolled at Ohio University with a major in acting one. She completed her studies in 1998 summa cum laude as a bachelor's degree .

Upon graduation, Perabo went to New York City to begin an acting career. Her first engagement was at the LaMama Theater, while she was also working as a waitress in a restaurant. In addition, she appeared in a commercial for candy on. She also received roles in two independent low budget Todd Rohal productions, Single Spaced and Knuckleface Jones .

In 1999 Perabo had the breakthrough in the role of Sara in Marc Levin's film Whiteboyz at the side of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg .

Perabo gained international fame in 2000 in the role of Violet in Coyote Ugly , a film by David McNally . In the film she sang One Way Or Another and was awarded the MTV Movie Award for Best Music Moment . With Lost and Delirious , Perabo was able to convince in 2001 in the role of a lesbian woman. This was followed by productions such as Naughty Beasts! , Cheaper by the dozen, or The Cave . Another film on the subject of lesbian love is a wedding for three , which was shown in 2006 in German-speaking countries .

Also in 2006, Perabo played Hugh Jackman's wife in The Prestige . In 2008 she made her first appearance on an off-Broadway at the MCC Theater, New York City, in Neil LaBute's play Reasons to Be Pretty . In 2009, due to its great success, 85 performances followed on Broadway at the Lyceum Theater . In 2011 she received a Golden Globe nomination for the lead role of young CIA agent Annie Walker in the television series Covert Affairs . In 2015 she appeared as Maggie , a single mother, in John Pollono's Lost Girls directed by Jo Bonney on stage at MCC Theater.

Perabo is co-owner of the Employees Only bar, which opened in 2005 , in the West Village and the Jack's Wife Freda restaurant, which opened in SoHo in 2012 .

In 2014 she married director and producer Stephen Kay .

Perabo is also socio-politically active. She supports the immigration rule Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and promoted the 2018 Women's March and its rally on January 21, 2018 in Washington DC
