Barnaby Jones is an American crime series directed by Quinn Martin . It is an offshoot of the Cannon series .
action
The private detective Barnaby Jones retires after many years of professional life and passes his detective agency on to his son Hal. However, he is murdered shortly afterwards during an investigation. Jones returns from retirement and teams up with his daughter-in-law to convict the killer. When this succeeds, both decide to work together in the future and to run the detective agency together from now on.
Since Jones was already of retirement age at the beginning of the series, there were only a few action sequences with him in the series. Usually fight scenes and chases were taken over by others; In addition to his daughter-in-law, the series “JR” focused on Jones , a distant relative and law school graduate .
The producers were able to sign numerous well-known guest stars for the series, especially in the first season, including Stefanie Powers , William Shatner , Leslie Nielsen , Meg Foster and Nick Nolte . In later seasons, Don Johnson , Sean Penn , James Woods and Tommy Lee Jones appeared.

There were frequent crossover appearances between Cannon and its offshoot Barnaby Jones .
