Quinn Martin

Quinn Martin (born May 22, 1922 in New York City , New York , † September 5, 1987 in Rancho Santa Fe , California ), actually Irwin Martin Cohn , was an American television producer .

Life

Martin was born in New York and his family moved to Los Angeles , where his father worked as a film producer. After his military service in World War II , he graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1949 . He began his career as a film editor and screenwriter . For Desilu Productions he first worked as a producer for the Jane Wyman Show . For Desilu he developed the crime series The Untouchables about Eliot Ness . In 1960, he founded his own production company, QM Productions , which produced numerous classic and long-lasting television series such as Auf der Flucht , Cannon and The Streets of San Francisco . In the United States, Martin was best known for the fact that his name was spoken by an announcer on the theme music of his series ( "The Streets of San Francisco. A Quinn Martin Production" ). In the German-language adaptation, this part, including the introduction of the main actors and guest stars, was cut out.

In 1979 Martin sold QM Productions to Taft Broadcasting and moved to Rancho Santa Fe, a census-designated place in San Diego County . He held a professorship in acting at the University of California at San Diego and held various honorary positions.

Martin was married to screenwriter and producer Madelyn Pugh in the late 1950s . From 1961 until his death from a heart attack , he was married for a second time. The two marriages resulted in three children.
