Arcadia ( proper spelling arcadia ) is an international specialist journal for comparative literature . She currently describes herself as the "International Journal of Literary Culture". It was founded by Horst Rüdiger as the first German specialist journal for comparative literature and is currently published every six months.

Content orientation

Arcadia deals with literatures and arts from around the world. The aim of the journal is to discuss modern theories and methods in this regard. The authors who publish in arcadia are predominantly German-speaking and international literary scholars . In arcadia , the articles are published in German, English and French. The topics go beyond the literatures of individual nations or ethnic groups. The focus is on intercultural and interdisciplinary relationships in literature. Most of the booklets deal with one topic. Arcadia also serves to publish book reviews on literary studies.

Editor and publisher

Horst Rüdiger was the founder and editor of the arcadia magazine for many years . Rüdiger was a full professor for comparative literature at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . He became known in public as a translator of ancient poetry and a publicist for the weekly newspaper Die Zeit . He started the magazine arcadia in the winter of 1965/1966. It initially appeared with the subtitle "Journal for Comparative Literature".

Arcadia has been published by De Gruyter since the first edition . After Rüdiger's death, Erwin Koppen continued the magazine from 1985, then Maria Moog-Grünewald and Jürgen Wertheimer from 1992, and later John Neubauer and Wertheimer. Two issues of around 450 pages appear annually. These are produced in offset printing in an edition of 1000 copies each. The magazine is currently edited by Vivian Liska and Vladimir Biti.
