Mike Mendez

Mike Mendez (* 1973 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American film director and film editor .

Life

In his youth he attended a Catholic school and worked in his parents' Mexican restaurant on Hollywood Boulevard . He later attended college in Pasadena . Here he achieved first successes in his passion for filmmaking. The Arts Council of the City of Pasadena awarded him an Excellence in Filmmaking Award. At the age of twenty-two he made his first film, Mike Mendez 'Killers , which was approved for the 1997 Sundance Film Festival . Mendez later criticized the fact that the producers and distributors [...] had re-edited the film, made the mood more cheerful and changed the music . He achieved his breakthrough in 2000 with the entry Convent , which was also approved for the Sundance Film Festival and was shown at almost 30 other film festivals worldwide. Two years later, a documentary about the horror film and its history followed. Originally planned as a direct-to-DVD , a television documentary was produced for US television due to the cost. In 2012 he made the animal horror science fiction film Big Ass Spider! , starring Ray Wise , Clare Kramer and Greg Grunberg . More B-films followed . He is also responsible for editing the films he directs.
