history
The company was founded in Atlanta in 1978 by Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank . It grew rapidly, with annual sales of $ 1 billion as early as 1986. In fiscal 2017, sales were $ 100.9 billion.
In April 2006, the company announced that it would more than double its online and catalog activities by acquiring two companies in these industries.
According to its own admission, The Home Depot had the goal of entering the European market. However, despite all the cooperation talks held on this (early 2000 with Bauhaus ; negotiations were also carried out with a Scandinavian hardware store group) or takeover attempts (early 2004 Kingfisher ), this has not yet been implemented.
