The Avis Budget Group is the US parent company of the rental car companies Avis , Budget and Zipcar . The company's headquarters are located in Parsippany-Troy Hills , New Jersey .

history

The company Avis was founded in 1946 in Detroit founded by Warren Edward Avis. 12 years later, Morris Mirkin started Budget car rental company in Los Angeles .

It emerged in 2006 from the Cendant Car Rental Group , which was founded by Henry Silvermann and to which the rental car companies Budget and Avis belonged.

On September 5, 2012, the Avis Budget Group acquired the rental car company Apex Car Rentals from New Zealand .

This was followed on March 14, 2013 by the acquisition of the international car sharing company Zipcar for a purchase price of 500 million US dollars. It was converted into a wholly owned subsidiary.

On April 9, 2015, the Avis Budget Group announced the takeover of the Italian car rental company Maggiore Group .

The subsidiaries all follow the Sharing Economies business model.
