Günther Friesinger (2016)

Günther Friesinger (born May 4, 1973 in Graz ) is an Austrian philosopher , freelance media maker, artist and curator .

Act

Günther Friesinger works as a lecturer at various universities, as a journalist for several radio stations, is co-operator of the Team Teichenberg project office, develops audio and streaming software and is also the operator of the Philosophical Audio Library at the University of Vienna . From 2005 to 2009 he was works council for the scientific staff at the University of Vienna. Since 2006 he has been chairman of the Quartier für Digitale Kultur, which is located in Vienna's Museumsquartier , and director of paraflows - festival for digital art and cultures in Vienna.

He is a member of the art and theory group monochrom . In his theoretical and practical work, he mainly deals with topics such as: digital culture , media art , media theory , intellectual property , urban hacking , copyright , data protection , network culture and refusal to consume .

In 2003, together with Helmut Neumann , Morgana Petrik and Dominik Sedivy, he founded the “Society for Sound Series Music” and the associated Institute for Sound Series Music. The primary goal is the research and documentation of the third Vienna twelve-tone school and the promotion of sound series composition (also sound series theory , sound series composition teaching).

Since 2003 he organized in Austria Events International Buy Nothing Day (International Buy-Nothing Day). The aim is to protest against exploitative production and trade strategies of international corporations and financial groups by refraining from consumption for 24 hours. Conscious purchasing behavior of every individual, aimed at sustainability, should thus be promoted.

In 2004 he was co-founder of netznetz.net in Vienna. On the one hand, it was about the networking of Viennese net art and net culture initiatives and the development of a new funding model for net art and culture. The core of this funding model is the basic idea that no curator and no jury make funding decisions. A participatory and egalitarian selection should be made according to the nature of the net culture. The aim is to promote a pluralist sector and a collaborative climate between the actors.

In 2006 Friesinger started the paraflows - festival for digital art and cultures in Vienna. The aim was to create a platform for the local scene of media art, net art, digital art and culture, media activism, data protection and game culture. Friesinger has been the festival director of paraflows since 2006.
