from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The building materials trade (formerly also fuel and building materials trade ) describes the branch of trade that deals with the sale of building materials , roofing items , wood , insulation materials , structural steels , sanitary facilities and often fuels such as coal, wood and heating oil as well as tools and scaffolding rental.

Today, building materials dealers are mostly organized in purchasing associations, which guarantee both a logistical and thus a purchasing advantage.

Explanation of terms building materials trade - hardware store

The building materials trade differs from hardware stores in that it has extensive stocks of a wide variety of building materials from all areas of construction. In addition, there is usually their own corresponding logistics in the form of tipping and crane vehicles, which allow product and construction site-oriented delivery. The vast majority of the articles in the building materials trade are therefore not sold by DIY stores, because their target group is completely adequately served with do-it-yourselfers .

Furthermore, the specialist trade provides extensive specialist advice and support for construction companies and other specialist firms. For this purpose, the employees of the building materials trade are extensively trained by the manufacturers on their products.

Germany

The German building materials trade is mainly structured as a medium-sized company , but some groups such as Saint Gobain (which operate under the name Raab Karcher ) and BayWa play an essential role in the market. Other building materials dealers also organize themselves in so-called purchasing associations such as Hagebau , Eurobaustoff , Baustoffring . A new branch of the building materials trade is the sale of building materials over the Internet. The umbrella association of the German building materials trade is the Bundesverband Deutscher Baustoff-Fachhandel eV (BDB), which advocates the interests of the building materials trade and, for example, through seminars for the next generation and the further training of employees (such as further training to become an energy specialist in the Building material retailers). The BDB has 805 members with 2,012 facilities, 34,605 employees and 2,999 trainees work in these facilities (as of 2011). Sales in 2011 amounted to around € 13.5 billion.

Austria

The building material dealers in Austria are organized in the Association of Building Material Dealers in Austria , which is a member of the Austria Building Cluster . He is represented by the Federal Committee H 21 - Wood and Building Materials Trade of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce . In contrast to Germany, however, the building materials dealers here mostly also operate hardware stores at their locations. The best known here are Öbau , an independent subsidiary of Hagebau , BauWelt and Lagerhaus .
