The euro Building Materials mbH & Co. KG with headquarters in Karlsruhe and Bad Nauheim is a European group of companies in the wholesale and retail of building materials , wood and tiles.

history

Today's company was created through two mergers from three originally independent specialist trade cooperations.

In the early 1960s and 1970s, Interpares, Mobau and IBS service group were founded. In 1994/95 Mobau and Interpares initially merged to form the Interpares-Mobau association. The company was based in Karlsruhe. The EUROBAUSTOFF dealer brand is to this day "i & M Bauzentrum", and for many of the shareholders in today's cooperation this is still part of their company name.

In the mid-1990s, the IBS service group changed its name to "Interbaustoff". Its seat was in Bad Nauheim.

The second merger followed in 2003/2004. From Interpares-Mobau and Interbaustoff initially came the "i & M Interbaustoff" based in Bad Nauheim and Karlsruhe. In 2006 the cooperation was renamed "Eurobaustoff".

Task and meaning

The bundled and therefore cheaper purchasing was the core task of the cooperation with the partner companies in the founding years. Today the cooperation is a service company that offers the participating dealers a wide variety of services:

  • marketing and advertisement
  • distribution
  • Construction and specialist store concepts
  • Purchasing
  • E-commerce
  • Data management
  • logistics
  • Merchandise management
  • Site planning and monitoring
  • Education and training for employees
  • Financial management
  • PR and press
  • IT and digitization.

Eurobaustoff achieved a centrally settled turnover of 6.45 billion euros in 2018 . External sales in the same year amounted to 16 billion euros. Eurobaustoff is thus the leading cooperation between medium-sized specialist retailers for building materials, tiles and wood in Europe.

At the end of 2018, the limited partners of Eurobaustoff were 475 medium-sized , independent building dealers with 1,745 locations. Most of the shareholders have their branches in Germany, others are based in Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Liechtenstein, France, Italy and Luxembourg. A Czech company has also been a partner in the cooperation since May 2018: PRO-DOMA from Prague, a medium-sized, owner-managed building trade with over 800 employees. A Swedish company, Derome Aktiebolag in Veddige, Sweden, joined the cooperation in January 2019.

The association has its headquarters in Karlsruhe. The personally liable partner "Eurobaustoff Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH" is based in Bad Nauheim.

Central warehouse

The six central warehouses allow the affiliated cooperation members less effort in delivery and storage as well as lower purchase prices even for small quantities through joint purchasing. Some of them also offer their own logistics concepts with which goods can be obtained not only from the central warehouse or supplier, but also from other shareholders (“cross-docking”).

Eurobaustoff Versicherungsmakler GmbH

The aim of Eurobaustoff Versicherungsmakler GmbH is the bundling of specialized knowledge for the drafting of contracts and the complete processing and settlement of claims.

Infokom GmbH

Infokom GmbH is the most important IT service provider for Eurobaustoff. The company was founded more than 30 years ago by the old company Interpares and is today a software and hardware supplier, software developer and support partner of the cooperation. Eurobaustoff took over Infokom GmbH in November 2011.

Fields of activity and sales lines

The fields of activity of Eurobaustoff are based on the different needs of the cooperation members. They cover all dealer and trade variants - from wholesalers to retailers, from generalists to specialists, from classic building materials wholesalers to construction centers. There are also online shops that are mainly used in B2B business.

Building materials specialist trade

The offers of the shareholders are primarily aimed at professional customers such as craftsmen. Therefore, the majority of the cooperation's turnover is generated in wholesale. In six product areas (wood and construction elements, roof + facade, plaster / ETICS / building chemistry, civil engineering + landscaping, drywall / insulation materials and shell construction, tiles / natural stone) specialists take care of the purchase and sale of the goods.

Building trade

The retail trade is aimed at private customers. Eurobaustoff not only supports the dealers with purchasing. If necessary, she designs exhibitions and develops drive-in concepts. And a digital exhibition has also been offered since mid-2017.

Wood & construction elements and tiles / natural stone

The cooperation center in Bad Nauheim has its own areas for tiles / natural stone and wood & construction elements.

Trademarks

The most important retail brand of the association is “i & M Bauzentrum”. Own trademarks are “Prima”, “Cerabella” and “Opus 1”.

Cerabella

Cerabella is a tile brand that is available on the market exclusively for members of the tiles / natural stone specialist group of Eurobaustoff.

Opus 1

Opus 1 is a trademark for all Eurobaustoff retailers and comprises around 650 products from the areas of dispersions, varnishes and glazes.

Fine

Prima is offered for both retail and wholesale. The approximately 450 articles come from almost all product areas in the construction industry.

For private customers, the cooperation offers internet portals on the subjects of floods and modernization.

Shareholder structure

Individuality of the partner companies

The cooperation supports the individual appearances of their partner companies on site. Very few have the word “Eurobaustoff” in their name, quite a few operate under “i & M Bauzentrum”, but most of them under their own company name. The name of the cooperation is often not visible to the customer.

The shareholder companies also differ in other points: Sometimes the focus is on end-customer-oriented retail, sometimes more on profit-oriented wholesale. The focus on the products - wood, tiles, building materials - is also different.

The offers from Eurobaustoff are based on the individual needs of the cooperation members. Among other things, it offers specialist store concepts for retailers, specialization concepts for wholesalers and drive-in concepts.

Brand identity

As an alternative to an individual appearance, Eurobaustoff offers its shareholders the i & M-Bauzentrum dealer brand. Around 100 locations use this network brand in Germany. The brand emerged from Interpares-Mobau, one of the forerunners of Eurobaustoff.

Alliances and groupings

Within Eurobaustoff there are a large number of associations that, for example, benefit from a joint purchase because of their region or their professional orientation.

Specialists for certain ranges have come together in eight specialist groups. They supply professional customers such as craftsmen, planners and architects. The aim of the specialist groups is the exchange of information, joint purchasing and marketing, as well as training and further education for employees to become certified specialist consultants.

  • Specialist group components
  • Roof & Facade Section
  • Specialist group tiles / natural stone
  • Specialist group for landscaping
  • Specialist group wood
  • Specialist group plasters / ETICS
  • Specialist group civil engineering
  • Section drywall

Antitrust violation

In March 2010, the Federal Cartel Office issued a fine of € 4.665 million against Eurobaustoff Handelsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG for silo fees, which the company management does not consider justified and which has therefore appealed.
