The RWA Raiffeisen Ware Austria AG is the retail and service companies in the warehouse - cooperatives in Austria . It was founded as a cooperative in 1993, converted into a stock corporation in 1997 and has been operational since 1998. The RWA Group offers warehouses services in the areas of agriculture, energy, technology, building materials, DIY and garden centers, and services and links them to a network on a voluntary basis.

The focus of RWA activities is on deliveries and services for the member cooperatives in Lower Austria , Upper Austria , Styria and Burgenland . Selected holdings in Austria as well as in Central and Eastern Europe complement and expand the business areas of RWA. It has formed a strategic alliance with the German BayWa since 1999 and is therefore part of an international trading and service group.

RWA is owned equally by RWA Raiffeisen Ware Austria Handels- & Vermögensverwaltungs eGen and BayWa .

Overview

Raiffeisen Ware Austria AG works in conjunction with the warehouses as an important local supplier, business partner and employer in rural areas. They are based on the cooperative principle according to Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen . In the 2015 financial year, the RWA Group (RWA and its subsidiaries and investments) generated sales of 2.4 billion euros with around 1,800 employees. The operating result rose by 13.5% to 23.5 million euros. The operating result before taxes amounted to approx. 22.7 million euros. The Lagerhaus Group posted sales of 4.2 billion euros across Austria and employed around 12,000 people at more than 1,000 locations.

The first warehouse cooperative based on the Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen system was founded in Pöchlarn / Lower Austria in 1898. The Association of Rural Cooperatives in Lower Austria was formed as early as 1899, followed by the Association of Agricultural Cooperatives in Styria at the turn of the century. The first association was established in Upper Austria in 1917 . In 1946, what would later become the Austrian Raiffeisen Warehouse Center (ÖRWZ) was founded as a federal headquarters.

In 1993 Raiffeisen Ware Austria reg.Gen.mb.H. from the merger of the cooperative owners of the goods associations in Lower Austria , Upper Austria and Styria and the ÖRWZ in Vienna. The Burgenland cooperatives joined in 2004.

In 1998 the RWA-Genossenschaft transferred its entire business activity to the newly founded RWA Raiffeisen Ware Austria AG, but remained its owner. In 1999 the EU gave the green light for a strategic alliance with BayWa in Munich, based on a share swap.

Holdings

To strengthen the Bezug- and sales business, the RWA holds investments at home and abroad. In 2015, the group had sales of 1.7 billion euros in Germany and around 680 million euros internationally. Major domestic holdings are Genol, Garant, AUSTRIA JUICE, AFS Franchise-Systems, Agro Innovation Lab, Frisch & Frost, Lamb Weston / Meijer Austria, Wärme Austria, URL AGRAR and RI-Solution.

Genol GmbH

Genol is active in the business areas of fuels, heating oils, lubricants, filling stations and solid fuels as well as pellets and sees itself as a partner of the warehouse cooperatives and their customers in all energy issues.

Garant GmbH

Garant animal food in Pöchlarn (2019)

Garant Tiernahrung produces food for farm animals, horses, game and fish at three locations in Austria - in Aschach, Pöchlarn and Graz. Together with the license partners in Carinthia, Salzburg and Tyrol, Garant supplies the farmers with compound feed from the cooperative sector and is the industry leader with combined annual sales of more than 500,000 tons. The subsidiary Agromed Austria successfully exports special feed all over the world.

AUSTRIA JUICE GmbH

The AUSTRIA JUICE Group - a joint venture between RWA and AGRANA Beteiligungs-AG - is one of the most important manufacturers of high-quality fruit juice concentrates, beverage ingredients, fruit wines, not-from-concentrate juices, flavors and fruit sweeteners for the beverage and food industry.

The company (formerly Ybbstaler Fruchtsaft ) has been rooted in Allhartsberg (Lower Austria) since 1936 and today has 14 production sites in Austria, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Ukraine and China.

AFS Franchise-Systems GmbH

AFS Franchise-Systeme supports the Austrian warehouses as franchisor in the building materials and building & garden center business areas at more than 500 locations.

Agro Innovation Lab GmbH

The Agro Innovation Lab, founded in 2016, works as an innovation platform of the RWA Group with creative start-ups, individuals, companies and research institutions, analyzes and promotes ideas and innovations in the agricultural sector - from pure advice to help with financing and marketing. It also offers innovative services itself, such as drone flights and GPS-supported soil samplers as preparation for fertilizer advice based on requirements.

Frisch & Frost GmbH

Frisch & Frost - a joint venture between RWA and Lamb Weston / Meijer - is Austria's leading frozen food producer of Austrian pastry and potato specialties. The products are sold under the brands Bauernland and Toni Kaiser as well as under various trade brands. Frisch & Frost supplies the catering and commercial kitchens via wholesalers, consumers via food retailers and large industrial customers directly.

Lamb Weston / Meijer Austria

The RWA joint venture with Lamb Weston / Meijer mainly produces frozen potato products at the Hollabrunn site.

WAV Wärme Austria VertriebsgmbH

Warmth Austria - a joint venture of RWA with "Unser Lagerhaus" Warenhandelsgesellschaft mbH, BayWa Vorarlberg HandelsGmbH and OMV Refining & Marketing GmbH - sells heating oils, fuels, wood pellets, coal and lubricants throughout Austria.

URL AGRAR GmbH

URL AGRAR operates a wholesale business with agricultural products in Central Europe. The focus is on grain, maize, oilseeds, animal feed and seeds.

RI-Solution GmbH

RI-Solution is the joint IT company of RWA (20%) and BayWa (80%).

Business development

The RWA Group's consolidated total sales in 2015 were EUR 2.4 billion (−2.1%). Lower prices in the agricultural and energy business were primarily responsible for the decline. The earnings development was positive in almost all group companies. The EGT in the RWA group fell to approx. EUR 22.7 million (2014: EUR 29.5 million). The Group's strong equity ratio continues to give it stability. This increased from 51 to 51.8% in 2015. Equity increased from 384.1 to 395.1 million.
