The Agrana Beteiligungs-AG (proper spelling AGRANA Beteiligungs-AG) is an Austrian food and industrial goods group based in Vienna . Agrana produces fruit preparations and fruit juice concentrates, starch and bioethanol as well as sugar . The products are mainly sold to the processing industry. In the end consumer business, Agrana is particularly well known for its “Wiener Zucker” brand.

history

Agrana was founded in 1988 as an umbrella company for the Austrian sugar and starch industry. It initially operated three sugar factories ( Tulln , Leopoldsdorf , Hohenau until 2006), a potato starch factory in Gmünd and a corn starch factory in Aschach .

The history of the company's individual production sites goes back further: The one in Leopoldsdorf was founded in 1901 and 1902 to produce raw sugar and converted into a white sugar factory in 1925; the production site in Tulln was built in 1937. In 1974 the company received the state award and has been allowed to use the federal coat of arms in business transactions ever since .

After participating in Hungarian sugar and starch factories in 1990, the company went public on the Vienna Stock Exchange in 1991 . Further participations in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Austria followed.

Between 2003 and 2005, Agrana bought several companies in the fruit processing and juice concentrates industries (Steirerobst AG, Vallosaft, Wink, Atys) and thus built up a new business area. The reasons for this further diversification were growth limits stipulated by antitrust law and the change in the European sugar market regime.

Today Agrana operates ten sugar and five starch factories in Central Europe as well as more than 40 production sites in the fruit division around the world.
