history

Foundation and development

Fire truck: four-wheel motorized sprayer Linz II a, year of construction: 1923, Wels fire department
A Falcon from the Düren fire department

In 1866 Johann Rosenbauer (1828–1894) founded the first Upper Austrian fire brigade equipment shop in Linz . In addition to hemp hoses, hand pressure syringes from various manufacturers, helmets, buttons, etc., fencing, sports and play equipment were also sold. In 1888 Konrad Rosenbauer (1856–1909) took over the company, which marked the beginning of the company's own fire extinguishing equipment production. After moving to a larger company site, the company started its own manual pressure syringe production under the name of K. Rosenbauer & Kneitschel, Factory for Extinguishing and Defense Equipment and Metalware .

The company began manufacturing a gasoline engine pump in 1908. The first fire engine was built in 1918. As early as 1926, the automotive injection molding company Lohner & Rosenbauer exported the first vehicle to China. From 1929 onwards, the company also produced its own two-stroke engines . Today the engines for the portable pumps are bought in, including from BMW and Volkswagen. The company also had a production facility in Iran until the fall of the Shah. Since the 1970s there has been a collaboration with the Carvatech company , some of which manufacture the bodies of the vehicles. In 1979 the company received the state award and thus the right to use the federal coat of arms in business dealings. Rosenbauer introduced the Falcon in the mid-1980s . For the first time, this concept was not based on a standard truck chassis, but on a chassis specially developed for fire fighting vehicles.

In 2010, Rosenbauer generated sales of around EUR 595 million with around 2,046 employees at the nine production sites. Over 90% of Austrian production alone is exported. Production locations are Leonding , Traun and Neidling in Austria; Luckenwalde , Karlsruhe (former subsidiary Metz ), Mogendorf & Gladbeck in Germany, Oberglatt in Switzerland; Gornja Radgona in Slovenia, Rovereto in Italy, Linares ( Spain ); Fremont , Wyoming , Lyons ( South Dakota ) in the USA, King Abdullah Economic City (Saudi Arabia), Moscow and Singapore .

The Rosenbauer share has been listed on the Official Market of the Vienna Stock Exchange since September 1994 . The share capital of 12,359,000 euros is divided into 1,700,000 shares . In July 2007 there was a share split at a ratio of 1: 4 and the share capital increased to 13,600,000 euros; thus each share corresponds to a nominal value of 2 euros. 51 percent are held by Rosenbauer Beteiligungsverwaltungs GmbH. Another 6.1 percent are owned by the institutional investor Schroders plc ( GB ), the remaining 43 percent are in free float (as of June 2012).

The group supplies fire brigades worldwide with standard fire engines. In addition, special vehicles for airport fire brigades and plant fire brigades are manufactured. In addition to the pure fire fighting vehicles , the water cannon 10000 is also manufactured for the German federal police and the police forces of the German federal states .

The company also offers the entire range of fire-fighting equipment (helmets, uniforms, devices) from its own production or from purchases.

At the beginning of 2011, the German Federal Cartel Office imposed fines totaling 20.5 million on the Rosenbauer Group, Schlingmann GmbH & Co. KG and Albert Ziegler GmbH & Co. KG for illegal price and quota agreements in the fire-fighting vehicle cartel that had existed since 2001 , And a further 17.5 million euros against the competitor Iveco Magirus Brandschutztechnik GmbH .

In April 2014, the German Federal Ministry of the Interior officially asked the company for a statement because, after a demonstration by the Thuringia police, one of the new water cannons of the type "WaWe 10" showed three superficial fist-sized damage to the glazing after the vehicle was filled with eggs, tennis balls and half-full PET Bottles had been thrown at.

On June 23, 2014, a new plant was opened in Leonding, where vehicles from the AT and Panther model series will be manufactured from now on. However, the plant had already been put into operation in April 2014. Around 350 employees work in the plant. At the same time, the Luckenwalde plant was expanded.

In September 2016, Rosenbauer presented a concept study for the fire engine of the future. Thanks to its multifunctional basic concept, the Concept Fire Truck (CFT) can be used universally, is ergonomically optimized and, thanks to an alternative drive concept, is low in pollutants.

Vehicle concepts

Airfield fire engine

The Simba and Panther airfield fire-fighting vehicles are among the most powerful of their kind. The Panther 8 × 8 MA 5 model also attracted a lot of attention because of its futuristic design. It received numerous design awards in 2005 and 2006, including the iF design award, the red dot design award: product design and the design award of the Federal Republic of Germany . The design of the Rosenbauer Panther comes from the Viennese company Spirit Design . In 2015 Rosenbauer presented the new Panther 4x4 and 6x6 models at Interschutz .

By May 2012, over 1,000 Panther fire engines had been built and delivered to 81 countries.

In addition, Rosenbauer also produces the smaller Buffalo airport fire engine, the E8000 rescue stair vehicle and runway foaming vehicles .

Advanced technology (AT) / The new AT

The Advanced-Technologie (AT) has been used as AT 1 since 1994 in municipal fire fighting and fire fighting vehicles . With the introduction of the AT 3, there are also rescue vehicles with the AT body. The crew cabin is firmly integrated in the structure. Entry into the crew cabin is via automatic revolving stairs or stairs that fold down electrically / mechanically. Additionally with rear-mounted pump N (H) 30 with a CAN bus controlled screen control. The extinguishing agent tank can be ordered with 1200–4000 l water and 100–400 l foam concentrate. The vehicles with AT body are made of self-supporting, laser-cut and edged aluminum clamping components with GRP design parts. This vehicle technology has been sold in the first evolutionary stage AT 2 since 2002.

In 2010, the AT body was completely redesigned and presented as AT 3 (The New AT) at the Interschutz trade fair in Leipzig. The series covers vehicles between 10 t and 20 t gross vehicle weight . The AT has been built since 1993, with over 2,000 vehicles delivered by December 2011.

CL-Compact-Line

At Interschutz 2005 , Rosenbauer named the LF10 / 6 fire fighting group vehicle from the Compact Line (CL) as innovation number 4 . The concept covers all standard vehicles up to 10 t GVW ( LF 10/6 road , TSF-W , TLF 500). It can be set up on all chassis (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Renault Master Pro, MB Atego and MAN). The special technical features of the Compact Line include a thin, load-bearing, lightweight construction shell made of aluminum sandwich panels with a low weight and a large volume. All side equipment compartments are electrically closed with a roller shutter without intermediate struts.

ES euro system

The Euro-System (ES) is also used by municipal fire-fighting vehicles, fire-fighting groups and, in addition, rescue vehicles . The ES can be built on many chassis (MAN, Mercedes-Benz, Renault). The vehicles can be ordered rear-mounted / midiship pumps N 20 to N (H) 30 with and without screen control. There are three different body lengths and two body widths. The ES vehicles are made from sandwich elements using an adhesive screw technology. The vehicles with an ES body are also produced with self-supporting, laser-cut and folded aluminum frames.

Large tank fire engine

A special feature of Rosenbauer fire engines is the large tank fire engine (GTLF) 33,000 Buffalo Extreme. It is the largest fire engine in the company's history. The Buffalo Extreme has a 33,000 liter tank and a total mass of 68 tons. The vehicle is based on the heavy duty truck Paul Heavy Mover , which is equipped with a 420 kW diesel engine, which can accelerate the fire engine to 65 km / h. The locations of this vehicle would be in large open-cast mines , pipelines and drilling areas in remote regions.
