The Porr AG (proper spelling PORR AG ) is an on the Vienna Stock Exchange -listed construction company based in Vienna . It is one of Austria's largest construction companies and operates nationally and internationally in all sectors of the construction industry: from civil engineering , including traffic routes , tunneling and civil engineering on the building construction to environmental and facility management .

Today's parent company Porr AG was founded in 1869 under the name Allgemeine Österreichische Baugesellschaft as a stock corporation, making Porr the oldest publicly listed company in the country. The name Porr goes back to the construction technician Arthur Porr , the co-founder of A. Porr Betonbauunternehmung Ges.mbH, which merged with the company in 1927

history

In 1869 the Allgemeine Österreichische Baugesellschaft was founded in Vienna. The company was first listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange on April 8, 1869. The company's first major order was to re- route the Linz – Budweis railway line in order to switch to steam operation. In the 19th century, a number of ring road structures were built , such as the House of Industry on Schwarzenbergplatz. In 1873 the company built seven exhibition pavilions and numerous hotels for the World Exhibition in Vienna.

Arthur Porr, a pioneer of concrete construction, and O. Stern founded A. Porr Betonbauunternehmung Gesellschaft Ges.mbH in 1908

The two parent companies merged to form Allgemeine Baugesellschaft - A. Porr Aktiengesellschaft. In 1930 the company did pioneering work with the construction of the world-famous Grossglockner High Alpine Road . In the interwar period, Porr was involved in the construction of numerous power plants, roads, railways and industrial buildings.

After the war, prestigious office and commercial buildings were built, such as the striking Ringturm in Vienna in 1953 . Porr also increasingly became the general contractor for large national projects. In the seventies, Porr developed the New Austrian Tunneling Method, which revolutionized civil engineering worldwide. With the establishment of branches outside Austria, the company positions itself as an international group that realizes construction projects of all types and dimensions in Europe and the Middle East. In 1973 the Vienna International Center and the Vienna UNO City were built. In the 1980s, the group expanded its activities to Central and Eastern Europe. In 2000 Porr became the majority owner of Teerag-Asdag , the most important road construction company in Austria at the time.

Karl-Heinz Strauss has been CEO of Porr since September 2010 . At the time, the Porr Group was extensively restructured. At the end of 2010, Porr took over the Teerag-Asdag shares from Wiener Stadtwerke and thus became the sole owner. In June 2011 the powerful Porr Bau GmbH was founded, which was created through the merger of Porr Projekt und Hochbau Aktiengesellschaft with Porr Technobau und Umwelt Aktiengesellschaft.

A syndicate from the IGO Industries Group and the Strauss Group has held the majority of the shares since 2012. The rest is in international free float. In 2013 the company name was changed from Allgemeine Baugesellschaft - A. Porr  AG to Porr AG, which means that the group operates internationally as Porr.

In 2014, the real estate division was spun off and Porr became a pure construction company. In 2016, Teerag-Asdag merged with Porr Bau.

In March 2017 Porr announced to Heijmans belonging Oevermann group to buy. The company was included in the Austrian Traded Index (ATX) for the first time in June 2018 .
