Large tank fire engines ( GTLF for short ) are fire fighting vehicles that have a water tank with at least 3000 liters . They have a larger water tank than any other fire engine. These are special vehicles from the class of the tank fire trucks , two of which are standardized nationwide.

Types

The fire brigades in Germany had different, mostly non-standardized types; The all-terrain TLF 16/45 and similar non-standardized vehicles that were specially developed for fighting forest fires, the TLF 24/50 and the TLF 20/40 or TLF 20/40-SL were or are particularly often available. As part of the introduction of digital radio from the authorities , there will be three standardized types of fire fighting vehicles in the future, two of which are large tank fire engines : the TLF 3000 and the TLF 4000 .

Special designs

The Rosenbauer company offers the Buffalo Extreme large tank fire-fighting vehicle with a 33,000 liter water capacity , which is sold on the basis of the Heavy Mover . The off-road fire engine is intended to be used in remote fire fighting operations.

In addition, the district of Cloppenburg has developed a large tank fire engine 30000 (GTLF 30000) for the voluntary fire brigades. The vehicle consists of a tractor unit and a tank trailer with a hydraulic rotary lobe pump, which has an output of 7,000 l / min. Depending on the weight limit, up to 30,000 liters of water as well as fittings and hoses can be carried. This vehicle ensures the water supply especially for use in arid areas (moor, forest, motorway).

Areas of responsibility

Large tank fire engines are of great importance when fire fighting measures have to be carried out in locations that do not have a supply of fire water. This is e.g. B. on motorways , in moors , heaths or forests , but also at Einsiedlerhöfe ; At such locations, the water supply of conventional fire trucks is often no longer sufficient. Large tank fire engines can then serve as a water supply or be used in shuttle traffic. In addition, tank fire engines with large tank volumes are often equipped with correspondingly powerful water cannons that can be used effectively for fire fighting.

Construction and equipment

Due to their enormous tank, which takes up a lot of space and is heavy, GTLF only have a very low fire service load. However, this should not hide the high tactical value.

Typical features of GTLF are the troop crew and the combined foam-water projector ( monitor ) mounted on the vehicle roof , which allows a particularly massive fire-fighting attack even from a great distance.

Demarcation

Airfield fire-fighting vehicles are in principle also large tank fire-fighting vehicles, but are grouped together in a separate vehicle family due to their special features.

In Austria , vehicles with a water tank of 4,000 liters or more are known as large tank fire engines (GTLF). However, these are often also designed as universal fire- fighting vehicles.

The large tank fire engine (Czech Republic) is used in the Czech Republic .
