Roman ( German Romesmarkt , Hungarian Románvásár ) is a town in the Romanian region of Moldova and is located 46 kilometers east of Piatra Neamț in the Neamț district .
It had about 69,500 inhabitants in 2003 and is located at the confluence of the Siret and Moldova rivers . It is generally believed that the name comes from Prince Roman I. Mușat (ruled 1391-1394), who may have founded this city.
