Gávavencsellő (former name Gáva-Katóhalom ) is a municipality on the Tisza in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county . Neighboring municipalities are Rakamaz (12 km), Tiszaberecel (5 km), the nearest towns Nyíregyháza (30 km) and Tokaj (18 km).
Latène Age burial ground
The site of the burial site is on a kurgan , an artificially created hill, the dating of which is uncertain, but which was also used in the Latène period. As early as 1880 more than a dozen graves were found or destroyed during excavation work. This rather large necropolis housed both body and cremation burials .
A glass arm ring, a bronze belt chain and ceramics that could be dated to the Middle Latène (LTC II, 250-100 BC) were found among grave goods in the women's graves . Some experts want to see a Germanic influence in the ceramic vessels, especially a boot-shaped vessel with an engraved decoration. A Hatvan-Boldog sword with a scabbard was mixed up with other additions due to poor inventory in the 1950s.
