The Mile High Stadium was originally built as Bears Stadium for minor league baseball and at that time only had 17,000 seats.

In the late 1950s, expansion measures followed, which first increased the capacity to 23,100, then to 34,657 places. The Broncos started playing in 1961 and were able to look forward to excellent attendance figures, so that in 1968 an upper tier was built and the capacity was increased to a good 50,000 spectators.

Between 1975 and 1977 the stadium was expanded again, which ultimately led to a seating capacity of 76,123.

In 1993 and 1994, the newly formed Colorado Rockies began playing at Mile High Stadium, in both years the Rockies had the best attendance average in the Major League, with 4,483,350 spectators in the 1993 season they had the best attendance of all Times in baseball. In 1995, the Rockies were able to move into their own pure baseball stadium, Coors Field.

In order to use the stadium for both baseball and football, the east side of the stadium was movable, the huge, three-story grandstand was moved hydraulically and weighed around 4,000 tons.

Mile High Stadium was demolished in 2001 after the Denver Broncos moved to neighboring Invesco Field at Mile High . Parking spaces for the new Invesco Field were created on the now vacant area .
