Ed McCaffrey (born August 17, 1968 in Waynesboro , Virginia ) is an American football coach and former player.

Life

McCaffrey played American football, basketball, and baseball as a student at Allentown Central Catholic High School, Pennsylvania . At university level, he decided to play football and was a wide receiver on the Stanford University team from 1986 to 1990 . The New York Giants secured the draft process of the NFL in 1991, the rights to the 1.95 meters measured McCaffrey.

McCaffrey played 13 years in the NFL: 1991 to 1993 in New York, 1994 with the San Francisco 49ers and from 1995 to 2003 with the Denver Broncos . In 1994 he won the Super Bowl with San Francisco, 1997 and 1998 with Denver.

From 2012 to 2017 McCaffrey commented on the Denver Broncos games for radio broadcaster 850 KOA, and in 2017 he became head coach of Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch , Colorado , which he held until 2019. In December 2019, he was introduced as the new head coach of the University of Northern Colorado football team.

His wife Lisa (nee Sime) played soccer at Stanford University, McCaffrey's father-in-law Dave Sime was a track and field athlete and was a silver medalist over 100 meters at the 1960 Summer Olympics .

The sons Max, Christian , Dylan and Luke all became competitive football players.

McCaffrey's brother Billy  was a professional basketball player.
