Chuck Howley (* 28. June 1936 in Wheeling , West Virginia ) is a former American American football poker players. He played as a linebacker for the Chicago Bears and the Dallas Cowboys in the National Football League (NFL).

In the Entry Draft he was elected by the Chicago Bears , coming from West Virginia University , in the first round of the 1958 draft. He played for the Bears for two seasons until he wanted to end his career in 1959 after a knee injury. After a West Virginia school game, he decided to make a comeback and the Bears let him for draft picks to the Cowboys.

Howley completed 165 games for the Cowboys in thirteen seasons, including two NFL championships and leading the Cowboys to two Super Bowls. At Super Bowl V he was elected Super Bowl MVP . It was the first time that a defensive player and for the first and so far only time that a player of the losing team was awarded the prize. The next year Howley was able to compete again for the Dallas Cowboys in the Super Bowl and again get a convincing performance. In 1973 he finally ended his career.

Three years later, he was inducted into the Ring of Honor at Texas Stadium as the fourth player .
